Ashley McHardy

Ashley runs a childrens art studio here in The Gap but also has an extensive background in wine with a Diploma in Oenology and Viticulture, a Master Taster Certificate and Level II Sommelier.

Enjoy a casual afternoon of hand-building stoneware ceramics with me in my home studio, while you are treated to a wine and cheese sampling experience by sommelier Ashley McHardy from Nurture the Knack Creative.

In this class you will learn how to make a pinch bowl (which can also be modified to a tumbler or mug), a small slab plate (side plate size) and 2 small spoons (or you can make one larger spoon). All pieces will be made from a natural earthy speckled clay. After the class I will fire your pieces in the kiln to high temperatures twice. A white food-safe glaze will be applied to enhance the beautiful speckles of the clay and make it functional for food and dishwasher use.

For your wine experience, Ashley will take you through sampling of 2 hand selected wine varieties along with a skillfully paired cheese platter. All wine experiences include her 'Wine Tasting 101' and wine education on the region or grape variety.

The wines we will be exploring for this class will be: Syrah vs Shiraz (red), and a sample of each paired with 2-3 cheeses. Gluten free crackers will be on offer as well as regular wheat crackers and complimentary tea, coffee & biscuits.
