What it means to shop small

Buying small means supporting small local businesses around you whether that is in-store or online. By shopping with these small local businesses you are supporting those in your very neighbourhood which are often families who are also giving back to the same neighbourhood.

Shopping small means supporting the small guys...the ones who are living their dream...the ones who took a risk and decided to do their own thing even though it was going to be difficult and many sacrifices were made.

Even though they’re called “small”, small businesses are anything but that. What these businesses accomplish is actually quite big and extra-ordinary.

Here are a few reasons why it’s worth your time to shop small:

1. It creates jobs in your local community;
2. It generates local tax revenue so that more of your tax dollars remain local and support necessary services like schools, services and charities.
3. It’s a way to innovate new ideas. Small businesses produce more patents per employee than larger companies do.
4. They offer a personal touch; small businesses have more unique offerings and a personal customer service experience that big stores find hard to compete with.

Right now we have a ridiculous amount of small businesses around Australia in lockdown or experiencing crippling debt from this pandemic. Businesses that are sole traders and dependent on their local customers to generate income or provide unique local services.

Of course buying from their businesses will help them financially to stay afloat and hopefully we wont loose them forever but even if your not able to financially support them right now, we can always give them our support by following their social media accounts, like and comment with words of encouragement on their platforms and recommend them whenever you are given an opportunity.
